Palomar V Laser Acne Treatment
Acne is the most commonly diagnosed skin disorder in the United States, topping the list of reasons that patients seek out the help of a dermatologist. While studies show that acne is not caused by diet or stress but by physiological factors such as hormones, excess oil and bacteria, patients often place the blame on their own shoulders.
Acne lesions are prevalent on parts of the body where there is a high concentration of pores that contain oil-producing sebaceous follicles, such as the face, neck, chest, shoulders and upper back. When these follicles become clogged and inflamed, blackheads and whiteheads develop, If a whitehead or blackhead ruptures, its infected contents come into contact with the skin and the infection spreads - producing what is classically referred to as pimples. In a worst-case scenario, the pimples become so badly infected it turns into a cyst that is located deep in the skin. If left untreated, these painful lesions can lead to an acne scar.
Today, the Palomar LUX V is used almost exclusively to successfully treat active acne. The main benefit in the use of the LUX V is that it can clear acne without producing a notable injury to the outer layer of the skin. Non-ablative therapy works by targeting the overactive sebaceous glands that are responsible for acne. The laser emits a wavelength of light that is strongly absorbed by water within the skin. This generates heat in and around the sebaceous glands. By creating a mild thermal injury just below the skin's surface, the LUX V alters the structure and function of the sebaceous glad, leading to prolonged acne clearance.
The LUX V treatment typically takes about 20 minutes depending on location and amount of lesions. The patient will experience a slight snapping or stinging sensation that is alleviated by the patented cooling technology of the LUX V. A series of treatments are delivered at different intervals in order to achieved the desired clearance.
Marked reduction in acne lesions often occurs within a couple of treatment sessions, and a series of treatments should result in acne clearance for more than six months. Side effects are limited to mild redness and swelling which will not interfere with a patient's daily activities.
CLEARLight™ Acne Treatments
We invite you to experience beautiful, acne- free skin! It's now affordable!
What is CLEARLight™ The CLEARLight™ system is a photodynamic instrument that uses blue violet light waves which penetrate your skin and directly kill the bacteria that lead to inflammatory acne. These light waves also stimulate your body’s own bacteria fighting porphyrins which kill additional bacteria and remain activated to gives a lasting bacterial killing effect even after treatment is ended. This combined effect provides a drug free option for treatment of acne.
CLEARLight™ at Work:
Before Treatment: A pimple forms around the hair folicle opening, causing inflammatory acne with an abnormal amount of bacteria called P. acnes.
During Treatment: ClearLight's APC technology uses intense, 405-420nm wavelength light, which safely and effectively permeates the tissue to reach the P. acnes.
After Treatment: The P. acnes bacteria have been eliminated.
The Treatment:
A typical CLEARLight™ treatment session lasts 25 minutes. Patients can relax and listen to music while lying under the warming therapeutic light. After a treatment, patients feel rested and ready to continue with the rest of their busy day.
BEFORE TREATMENT When a pimple forms and clogs the hair follicle pore, an ideal microenvironmental is created. This enables the naturally occurring Propionbacterium acnes (P. acnes) bacteria to proliferate and start a cascade of events that lead to an inflammatory response.
DURING TREATMENT CLEARLight™ uses blue violet light wavelengths which penetrate the skin and reaches the P. acnes bacteria. These wavelengths of light directly kill P.acnes as well as stimulate the skin’s endogenous porphyrins which are part of its natural defenses against these and other bacteria. CLEARLight™ uses ONLY 405-420nm wavelengths of light which have been best shown to produce these effects in both the laboratory and clinical settings. It completely filters out damaging UV wavelengths. This allows for painless, safe acne treatments.
AFTER TREATMENT CLEARLight™ APC™ system has effectively and safely destroyed the proliferation of P.acnes bacteria.

The Crazy Thing I Did For Clear Skin
March 18, 2009 By Andrea Lavinthal
What's clear skin worth to you? Is it worth looking like Samantha Jones in the Sex and the City episode where she gets a chemical peel before Carrie’s book party and shows up resembling a tomato? Because that’s exactly what I looked like for five days after my first Photodynamic Acne Treatment (PDT).
PDT is a new laser procedure that treats resistant active acne and diminishes older acne scars. It uses light and heat to penetrate the skin and kill pore-clogging bacteria while shrinking the oil glands that cause acne. The process itself only takes 5-10 minutes and feels like hundreds of tiny rubber bands snapping at your face (unpleasant, but not insanely painful). The end results? Amazing. It’s been a month since the treatment and I have yet to see even a tiny zit. My old acne scars are less noticeable and I wear way less makeup than I used to (sometimes I skip it altogether—gasp!). As embarrassing as it was to look like I did for four days, I would do it all over again.
