    BLEMISHES, SPOTS AND STAINS

Laser blemish removal is a safe and effective way to remove unwanted skin imperfections with little downtime.

Laser blemish removal is an excellent way to reduce or even eliminate a variety of displeasing skin features including: moles, warts, skin tags, birthmarks, acne and more. No surgery, incisions, or stitches are required during laser blemish removal scars, port wine stains, stretch marks. Laser blemish removal can be done in a relatively short period of time and require little down time compared to most other cosmetic surgical options.

The technique used to achieve laser blemish removal will often determine the cost of the procedure. Depending on the laser and the blemish being treated, a patient may be required to undergo one treatment or a series of treatments to achieve their desired results.

The type of blemish you wish to banish will often determine the type of laser that is used during your laser blemish removal technique. An Erbium laser is effective in treating moles, warts, acne scars, port wine stains, and more. Lasers can also effectively reduce the appearance of some fine lines and wrinkles. Laser blemish removal can also be achieved through the use of a YAG laser. IPL, PhotoRejuvenation or Fotofacial is also used for blemish removal and is specifically designed to eliminate redness, broken capillaries, and brown spots, and more.

Laser blemish removal can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or so, depending on the size of the treatment area and the type of skin blemish being treated. After laser blemish removal, a patient may experience some discomfort, swelling, and redness in the treatment area. In more rare cases, a patient may develop mild crusting or blistering in the area. A laser blemish removal patient should be able to resume all normal activities after a few days or weeks. It is imperative that patients use a high SPF sunscreen as directed to protect the newly rejuvenated skin.

    What are birthmarks?
There are two basic types of birthmarks. Red or vascular birthmarks are most commonly seen, and are caused by an irregularity in the blood vessels. These include port wine stains and hemangiomas. Pigmented birthmarks, known as nevus (singular) or nevi (plural), are brown in color and are often less pronounced. Many birthmarks fade away before children reach school age, but they may remain and undergo changes over time.

What light-based treatments are most effective for vascular birthmarks?
Systems combining pulsed laser light and a broad band of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) offer the most effective and long-lasting treatment for vascular birthmarks such as port wine stains and hemangiomas. Palomar and Lumenis systems use laser and IPL to selectively close off different size blood vessels at varying depths below the skin's surface, thus causing the birthmark to fade. At Contoure, we are able to treat complex birthmarks with pinpoint accuracy, eliminating the birthmark while sparing healthy tissue from damage.

    What is purpura?
Purpura is the temporary purple discoloration, the bruising effect that is sometimes left by the laser or IPL after a treatment of a port wine stain. Purpura usually subsides and disappears in two to four weeks.
